Hello again, MagicalChez. In that other thread we were talking about setting up two more Admins/Beurocrats to help with moderation and clean-up. I went ahead and held an organized vote, seeing that we had two more members join and I thought it would be best to go ahead and include them. (The vote was held here and all of the active members were able to vote within that time span.) The winning two candidates were BreGee and me sitting at 5 votes each. Obviously, this can be discussed but hopefully this extra moderation will greatly improve the status of the Wiki, as you have said.
Edit: Moved reply.
I don't think that the poll was running long enough to get an accurate result. It was just other recent Wiki editors, not people who actually use the site, and in my opinion it would be better if users voted, as well as/instead of editors. And I don't think the whole "voting for yourself" thing was something that should've ever been allowed.
plus me and Clayblob were asking for admin for over a year, so just don't be surprised if the poll gets ignored. -shrug-
A week was actually the time we agreed on for this purpose. (I even talked to other's in a live chat and made the conclusion to pull it down seeing as everyone had voted.) The main appeal to this was to start an up-to-date vote allowing both old and new users to vote (It wouldn't be fair to go off an old one, would it?). And, I'll also add, the poll did manage to include everyone who has been active, and it included some legacy users as well. (The poll included more than I expected, actually). Everyone who has voted has made an edit within the past month, and all candidates were locked in to being active within that time span (At the time, that was barely three users, seeing as I never got a welcome or haven't seen any editing from you except for one message. You're active now, but at the time you weren't.)
Now we're at 5/6 active users, yet we had 7 people vote.. The seventh being a brand new user whose first and last edit was on the poll. Accounting for that, I'd say we included everyone. No one was left out, and more than expected were able to vote.
I was open to the idea of allowing anyone to vote, I even said that in the post! There were exceptions to try to prevent certain false-votes.I did, however, allow it because I thought it'd be best for the community as a whole. Which worked out, because again, everybody (plus one) voted! There isn't a single active user who was left out.
The "vote for yourself" thing was an entirely different entity altogether. It was to give people a chance to opt-out (for lack of a better word) if they felt they weren't to be a great candidate. If you were to vote for yourself, which I included in the rules section, you had to vote for someone else to nullify it. You and I were the only ones to do so, and if you ignore the votes we made for ourselves the results are still the same (Leaving it at only 2 for you, 4 for me, and 5 for BreGee.). I set it up in a way where it wouldn't interfere and unfairly sway any results of the poll.
And about the last thing, maybe that's the case. I have seen some conversation of it. But that's also outdated (by a year, as you just said). That's the reason why I brought this up to MagicalChez before I did anything, we needed a more recent vote (not just asking for admin) and it needed to include new, active members since its inception. An outdated vote does nothing, and simply asking for staff is even worse. This is an open platform, the community has to come together to elect active users, which is exactly what happened. (The biggest point here: the new users are the ones making a majority of the changes now, not inactive users. Sorry.)
I don't want this to turn into an argument as it has no reason to become one. It's not about you or I because it's what the community voted for. I couldn't have expected the results and neither could've you. It's just a little odd that you're suddenly jumping into all of this now that it's over, instead of expressing your concerns before it started. No one else but you seems to have issues with any of this. I don't see how I could have made the vote any more open and fair.
Maybe you took it as such because it's hard to convey emotions through text. I just didn't think that it was appropriate in this kind of conversation to include anything like emoticons.. Tone isn't an easy thing to share online, so I'm sorry it came off like that. This is kinda similar to that Wilfre thing. I didn't intend for that to sound heated, I was just trying to point out what you mentioned.
So, again, I'm sorry that you took as though I was upset, but I'm legitimately trying to understand your plight. I mean, you were the one to start this, after all. So can we please stay focused on the main topic? Perceived emotions shouldn't play any part in this.
Not to mention, these poll results are just who becomes admin now. If someone, (Presumably TA), does enough to consitute becoming an admin, it could happen. Admittedly, not that soon, but not to say it'll be another few years of trying.
I don't even know if you guys still get alerts for this old thread, but I wanted to leave a message here just to say two things: 1) I am sorry for disappearing on you all like that, I have no real excuse for just leaving the wikia hanging after the poll, 2) it seems like you've done a great job running the place! It's amazing how people can still care about this little game nearly a decade after its original release, isn't it?
Anyways, I don't think I'm planning on becoming active again, but who knows, maybe someone will buy the rights to make another DTL game one day and I won't be able to stay away.
Have a great day! Don't stop being awesome, you hear?
Hey MagicalChez, I've been working on overhauling some pages and adding sprites. My goal is to have most of the articles follow a design "guideline" (for lack of a better word) which should help the wiki have a unified style (making it both easy to read and edit.) and adding more/better images and sprites to pages where they are needed. I was wanting to know if I should go ahead and start ripping music/sound files from the game and add them to pages where they would belong. (Like how the Mincecraft wiki has idle/death sounds for their monsters.) I was also thinking about the current background of the wiki, I'm not to fond of the bright white, honestly it's a little overpowering with everything else being white along with it. ^^; I can possibly put together a new background image sticting together rips from the opening sequence from the Next Chapter (When they're in the village). The village has a very nice isometric stlye there and still screams "Drawn to Life" without having overpowering colors?
Listen, you're new here, so you don't really know this. MegicalChez has barely been on the wiki at all in past years. He does log in occasionally, as in, about once every 6 months, meaning that we cannot get a new admin. As one of the few people that has stuck here for as long as I have, I'm just going to give you a go ahead on a few of those things. The guideline should give the wiki some consistency and make it seem more professional, so go ahead with that if you want. If you can rip files, I know a lot of people that would very much like it if you could upload as many sprites and sound files to the wiki as you get the chance to. The background, however, cannot be changed without an admin online. This means we probably won't be getting a new background any time soon, although you can make one for when we have an admin available for once. Just don't expect it to be used immediately.
Well, that's fun. I've just been going off of the latest contribuation times, which wasn't -that- long ago. I guess I should have looked further. I'll start uploading music and sprites as soon as I get my main OS working again. (Linux put my hard-drive in readonly mode to prevent corruption, so I have to reinstall everything. It's a mess.) I'll put a design guideline section on my profile (or update it rather.), maybe it will help others who want to contribute (It does seem a tad bit self-centered though, aha.) I guess that does give my time to create a background, even if it doesn't get used it's not like it's a problem. I'm fine with the current, but it can be a lot better. Anyway, thanks for your reply, I'll see what I can do.
It you could that would be amazing! When the wikia was newer and closer to the release of the game I worried about things getting taken down for legal reasons, but I think it's been long enough that rips should be fine!
Sorry, Clayblob is right, I don't check in anywhere near as often as I used to, but seeing people still care about this game after all this time is really nice
Yes, if we get enough people together at the same time we could probably do that. I'm a little embarrased to say I'm not familiar with who the most active users are anymore, though. Who do you have in mind?
ClayBlob, BreGee and I have been the only active members I've seen in the recent contributions tab since I've joined the wikia. I've been here for almost a month so I don't know about others like TemporalApparition or The lone shadowbat.. They've both been inactive since Sep, 25 which doesn't help with having an active helper.
I think it's a good idea to select admins based on what they'll contribute. What I mean by this is that you shouldn't just admin the top few users who post the most images, or only the most text content. Don't focus on one aspect or that probably won't work. We need a balance of everything.
Yeah, you're right. That's a part of the reason why I mentioned you. An active admin that doesn't contribute isn't helping. There are many factors that play a role in this like Wikia history, activity and contribution weights. I was just worried that if we get a new admin that they'd become inactive too, which we really don't need. I don't know how the vote/poll will work or when it will happen, all I know is that this place needs a new active admin to help out (maybe even two?).
Could we start the poll today? I don't see becoming an admin as an increase in power, but it would make updating the background and CSS a lot easier. >.> Still, a vote for this would be great. With three admins around I doubt we'll run into this situation again.
(I'm almost done with the updated wiki background that should fix the border in the center. I have two images to test out though.. I'm sorry.. ^^; )
I volunteer for the writing/cleanup position, fixing up the grammar and information on the pages and removing stuff that really shouldn't be there (seems every time I leave someone puts up their fandom stuff, haha.) As well as putting in info about the Wii game, since nobody else seems to want to do anything about that. This year has been busy for me, but for the next few months I don't have anything to do, so I'll do my best to stay on here.
So I've decided this wiki needs a huge clean-up, and also needs more sprite images (for example, Wilfre's page has most of his animations, but Sock's does not). I am working on making gifs from the sprite rips on Spriter's Resource. If you still want to work on this wiki, perhaps we could work together to make the wiki less of a mess.
Wow I haven't seen anyone on the wiki for a while...
I think it's a good idea. This wiki really is a mess. It could be WAY worse... but still. Also, I wanted to point out that the Sock sprite is a little too fast. I'm not complaining, I just want you to know.
One more thing. The wiki is for everyone to read and fix/add on to. ...except for those who keep messing with the wiki. Those guys are trouble. So of course everyone will work on the wiki... if they ever come back... I know it's only been a few weeks??(a month? idk...) since anyone made some sort of appearance, but it's still lonely here. It's also good to have more people on here to help out.
I'm not a pro when it comes to wikia, and I won't always be there but I always try to help. :)
Ah, man. Photoshop is a pain to work with. I'll make it a bit slower and then maybe send you the image? (I felt like it was moving too fast, but I couldn't tell.)
Yeah, I was really just bored today, and I was like...Yeah. Yeah. It's not an awful wiki with one page or something, but Drawn to Life is a game that deserves a better wiki.
And. Yeah! (Wow I keep saying yeah. What an extensive vocabulary I have.) I'm hoping more people will come around and help out. I just like, noticed you were one of the most recent people who added things. And hopefully, people who mess with things will eventually just. Leave. They're not cool.
Thank you. I am also not a pro at wikias, but I know basic HTML to some degree and I just? Love Drawn to Life. I'm not saying I can make this, like, the Warriors wiki or something (those people are intense), but. Yeah.
Hey, welcome back! I couldn't help but notice you put a bit on your profile page about wanting more kinds of infoboxes. Coincidentally, I just made a new one last night for levels, since I noticed we were just using a generic infobox. There's a copy/pasteable code at Template:Infobox level and you can see it in action here. What do you think? I made it so that if the "raposa" and "templatepage" entries are blank, it hides that line, so it's useful for TNC levels too. If you want, I can make more.
Clayblob and TA said that the roll players shouldn't Rp here because it's, "not what the wiki is for," and, that we're somehow messing people up, and, I want to know, is it bad to Rp here?
I know well enough that the other roll players and I don't mess up the wiki, or at least don't try to, the only Roll players who edit the wiki here is Drew and I, but we don't change the pages to match our RPing, we only edit a page when it needs one. And we only RP on the chat, and, on the blog posts, and I don't see how that ruins the wiki.
So I guess that you're in charge, you can figure out if it's ok for us to rp.
So is it bad for us to Rp? Or is it that TA and clayblob don't want roll players, and there trying to scare us away?
the wiki is for information on the three games. it's not the community hub, and it was never designed for roleplaying or even lengthy discussion. not to mention it is pretty annoying seeing a constant rp stream going on in the recent edits, because you're buryiing the actual edits, and thus more things slip past me.
if you want to rp, go make a skype group, go start a deviantart journal, go to tumblr, or make a forum. any of those things are fine. but not here.
Ta, we're NOT useing the pages for our roll play, the ONLY time I edit is when I see a page needing editing, and, I do NOT edit a page to match our roll play.
I KNOW the wiki is not for roll playing, we're NOT using the main part of the wiki for our rp we're using the BLOG POSTS, I would like to know, what are they for? As far as I know there for the community to talk about dtl, and that, in a nutshell, is what we're doing.
Honsestly, I don't even know why I'm arguing.... Magical Chez says it's ok for us to RP, and there's nothing you can do to stop us from doing so, I'm done with this fight, good day.
i know you're not using the pages, but you're still flooding the activity feed. and we all know that MC isnt the one true authority here - considering that they're rarely oneline, and that I'm the most active.
i've politely asked you to leave about five times now, there's no reason to stay here. go.
You know what? I'm done with this, I'm not going to argue any more, I don't want to start a fight/war on the wiki. though, I'm going to stand firm on this, I'm not leaving the wiki, you can say whatever, but it still doesn't change the fact that you can't ban us from the wiki.
Oh I'm really sorry about that. MC has quit the wiki (I think) so he probably won't be able to reply. Anyway onto your question. I don't think everything is covered on the wiki. We haven't been getting many readers lately so its not very good. Tell you what though, on my profile is a list of things to edit. Feel free to take some if you'd like. Anyway have a good day :)
Considering the fact that there is no new stream of information on the game and its creators I don't know what else we can do. (Sorry for the absence. Collage stuff)
Don't worry. I've just finished uni today actually, and am getting ready for the "farewell party" xd. Anyway the point is we haven't got everything down I don't think. The text on wikis are supposed to both informative and entertaining at the same time. We sure have added a ton load of stuff but there are a lot of other things too. Also judging by the lack of views its obviously a sign we need to get better. Besides Dtl has had new streams. If it had no fans than 505 Games would have not spent that much money on the series. Many ppl ask "well why won't 505 make a third Dtl then". Well it doesn't work like that. Now that 505 have bought it whenever someone buys a Dtl cartridge they will get the money instead of thq. Also all the copywright is what they bought not the development although they could create a third Dtl. They have the ability to but that's not why people buy copywrights. This means Dtl is selling awfully well and 5th Cell are acting like a third Dtl has been put into mind. Anyway good luck on any exams you may still be taking Mc and for the future aofter.
Well, Ta and Clay are the same person. I'm sorry, but I had to do it. See how Clay, always states Ta is the best? And look at my last few blog posts, and take a close look at the two. I know, I am nasty for doing this, but they were cheating to be admin. I know, just getting two accounts isn't a problem, but the way she cheated to win arguments by doing the two against one is. And we can't have a self claimed, admin.
